Welcome to Res-Tech class #3.

Goal: Perform advanced searches to locate information and place in a shared data collection.

Objective: Find relevant and authoritative sources about the NFL controversy to answer questions; use that information develop a broader understanding of the issue. 

Skills developed: searching library databases, searching the web, generating keywords, citing sources in Noodletools

Group questions

Group 1 focus

Context: Where does this fit into the history of protests in America?
Similar protests; different protests; recent; long ago. Each person in the group must find one source and cite it in your shared Noodletools project

Hint: look for encyclopedia articles in databases; look for books in our catalog

 

Group 2 focus

Primary sources: Identify people and organizations who are central to this issue. Each person in the group must find one source and cite it in your shared Noodletools project.    

Hint: Use advanced searches and limiters to find information in newspapers and websites

 

Group 3 focus

Currency:  How and when did this news story start and how did it grow? Each person in the group find and cite one source that represents a point on the timeline, and cite it in your shared Noodletools project.

Hint: Use Truthy and advanced searches and limiters in newspaper databases and Google 

 

Group 4 focus

Perspectives: What are different viewpoints on this issue? Each member of the group finds one source that represents a distinct point of view and cites it in your shared Noodletools project.  

Hint: Use advanced searches and limiters to find editorials in newspapers databases

 

Group 5 focus

Why: Why do people care about this story? Why is this story important?   Each member of the group finds one source that speaks to this question and cites it in your shared Noodletools project.  

Hint: Use advanced searches and limiters to find newspaper databases, editorials and opinion pieces.
