Legal Rights for Teens

The American Civil Liberties Union exists to preserve and protect the liberties and privileges guaranteed to each individual by the Bill of Rights. These liberties include freedom of speech and expression, equal protection under the law, due process of law, and the right to personal privacy.

Child Welfare Information Gateway from the US Department of Health and Human Services promotes the safety, permanency, and well-being of children, youth, and families by connecting child welfare, adoption, and related professionals as well as the public to information, resources, and tools covering topics on child welfare, child abuse and neglect, out-of-home care, adoption, and more.

The Child Advocate serves children and the parents and professionals that work with them and advocate for them. Look at the “Law” tab for legal information.

Lambda Legal works to ensure that all LGBTQ young people can be safe, respected and free from discrimination and harassment.

From the site: “Ageism, just like racism or sexism, is a form of discrimination and prejudice. But unlike discrimination based on race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, ability, or age (at least for older people), ageism against the young (sometimes called adultism) is both legal and common. Ageism impacts young people on a daily basis, sometimes overtly through legal age restrictions, but also invisibly through negative attitudes, beliefs, biases, preconceptions and stereotypes about youth. It strips young people of any social, economic and political power and leaves us vulnerable to abuse.”
